SIP stands for Session Inititation Protocol and is the open industry standard that enables VoIP systems and end-points to communicate. SIP Trunks connects a premise based business phone system with a network service provider, i.e. your external lines. PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange which is a telephone system used by businesses to enable multiple, identifiable extensions, to connect to a collection of external network connections. The PBX enables extensions to be configured for each user, and for these users to accept and make external calls as well as extension to extension calls. A PBX normally provides a number of additional features such as hold, transfer, conference as well as supporting company directories.
